ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team turned in a solid performance across the lineup in a 7-0 victory over Saint Mary's University Tuesday afternoon at Hayden Tennis Courts. The MIAC win improves the Scots to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC. The Cardinals drop to 4-12, 0-7 MIAC.
The victory came on Senior Day, as the Scots honored senior
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) after the final match.
Macalester dropped just two games in the three doubles matches, with junior
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) and first year
Derek Chen (South Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown School) posting a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Doi and first year
Charles Flaman (Calgary, Alberta/Rundle College) were victorious at No. 1 doubles and sophomore
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and first year
Ezra Mahoney (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) won their match at No. 3 doubles by the identical score of 6-1.
The Scots were equally dominant in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets while not surrendering more than two games in any set.
Macalester plays a key MIAC dual on Saturday, April 18 at St. Olaf College. The dual is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. in Northfield, Minn.
