OWATONNA, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team lost a MIAC dual to St. Olaf, 6-1 Saturday night at West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center. The Scots fall to 8-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while the Oles improve to 8-8, 4-3 MIAC.
Macalester's No. 1 doubles tandem of first years Derek Chen (South Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown School) and Charles Flaman (Calgary, Alberta/Rundle College) defeated Lou Smith and Bogdan Vizoli, 6-4. However, St. Olaf took the other two doubles matches to win the doubles point. Sophomore Zach Dajani (Singapore/Singapore American School) and junior Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) lost a tight match at No. 2 doubles to Madden Vanderwerf and Marjan Veldic, 7-6 (8-6).
In singles, Flaman topped Vizoli, 6-4, 6-2 at first singles for the Scots' lone point. Dajani battled Vanderwerf at fourth singles before falling in a tie-breaker, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 1-0 (10-7).
Macalester faces Gustavus on Sunday, April 19 at 4:00 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
