FARGO, N.D. – The Macalester College men's tennis team brought the heat, only giving up two matches in a 6-1 win over Concordia College Sunday afternoon at the Cobber's Courts Plus. The Scots are now 7-7 on the season and 1-2 in the MIAC.
Macalester won two of the three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Senior
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and first year
Charles Flaman (Calgary, Alberta/Rundle College) won 6-2 in No. 1 doubles. First year
Derek Chen (South Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown School) and junior
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) battled to secure the point 7-6 at No. 2 doubles.
Doi, Flaman, Chen and sophomore
Zach Dajani (Singapore/Singapore American School) all secured their singles points in straight sets. Doi and Flaman each only allowed their opponents to win three games in their matches. Li pulled through in a tiebreaker match for the team's sixth point, and the blowout win. Sophomore
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) brought his #6 singles match to the tiebreaker, but couldn't clinch the win.
The Scots will seek to ride this momentum into the Senior Day matchup against Saint Mary's University. The MIAC dual will take place on Tuesday, April 14 at 5:00 p.m. at Hayden Tennis Courts.
