ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team fell to Luther College, 6-1 in a non-conference dual Saturday night at Rochester Tennis Connection. The loss is the first in five duals for the Scots, who are now 4-3 on the season. The Norse improve to 8-2.
Macalester's No. 1 doubles team of senior
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and first year
Charles Flaman (Calgary, Alberta/Rundle College) beat Joao Benvenutti and Abhay Chhabra, 6-4, but Luther won the other two doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
In singles, Flaman earned the Scots' lone point with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Juan Herrera at No. 2 singles. Benvenutti outlasted Doi, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) in a tie-breaker at No. 1 singles, and junior
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) also went to a tie-breaker with Chhabra at No. 3 singles before ultimately losing, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). The Norse won the other four singles matches in straight sets
Macalester travels to Hilton Head, S.C. for their Spring Break trip. The Scots will play SUNY-Oneonta on Monday, March 16 at 5:00 p.m. Central.
