HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Macalester College men's tennis team began its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head with a 6-0 victory over SUNY Oneonta Monday evening. The Scots are now 5-3 on the season, while the Dragons drop to 6-6.
In doubles play, Macalester won at first and third doubles to claim the doubles point. Senior
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and first year
Charles Flaman (Calgary, Alberta/Rundle College) beat Chris Chippari and William Schmid in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1 doubles, and sophomore
Zach Dajani (Singapore/Singapore American School) and junior
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) blanked Amine Abidi and Nate Inzerillo, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Doi, Flaman, Li, first year
Derek Chen (South Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown School) and Dajani were victorious at the top five singles positions. Doi and Li went to tie-breakers before winning their matches at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, while Flaman and Chen won in straight sets. Sophomore
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) was leading in his match with Abidi and No. 6 singles but they were unable to finish the match due to time constraints.
The Scots will play two duals on Tuesday, March 17 in Hilton Head. Macalester faces Stevens Tech at 12:00 p.m. Eastern before taking on defending national champion and No. 4-ranked Denison at 5:00 p.m. Eastern.
