WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Macalester College water polo team concluded the regular season with a 14-1 victory over Wheaton (Mass.) Sunday morning at Washington & Jefferson's Henry Memorial Natatorium. The Scots, who are 12-5 overall and 7-1 in conference play, went 4-0 on the weekend and clinched the No. 2 seed in the CWPA Championships, which take place April 10-12 in Norton, Mass.
Macalester dominated Wheaton from the start, getting goals from first year
Alice Lemmon (Evanston, Ill/Evanston Township), sophomore
Mak Kratz (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and junior
Molly Lemmon (Evanston, Ill/Evanston Township) in the first quarter and Kratz, first year
Katie Martin (Bryn Athyn, Pa./Germantown Academy) and junior
Hannah Fasi (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani School) in the second quarter for a 6-0 halftime lead.
In the third quarter,
Alice Lemmon, senior
Kendall Strauss (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock) and first year
Reese Winegar (Hoffman Estates, Ill./William Fremd) found the net, with senior
Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) scoring twice to put the Scots on top, 11-0. Wheaton tallied its only goal of the match to start the fourth quarter, only to have Martin, Fasi and Kratz close out the match with goals in the final quarter.
Macalester will begin play at the CWPA Division III Championships on Friday, April 10 against the No. 7 seed at 11:30 a.m. Eastern at Wheaton College in Norton, Mass.
