Water Polo: Scots Earn CWPA Victory over PSU-Behrend, 20-7

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Macalester College water polo team began a four-match CWPA weekend with a 20-7 victory over Penn State Behrend Friday evening at Washington & Jefferson's Henry Memorial Natatorium. The Scots improve to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while the Lions fall to 4-12, 2-4 CWPA.

Goals by junior Hannah Fasi (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani School), sophomore Anna Gaisser (Seattle, Wash./Ingraham) and first year Reese Winegar (Hoffman Estates, Ill./William Fremd) helped Macalester get out to a 3-1 lead. Sophomore Mak Kratz (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) reeled off three goals near the end of the first quarter to give the Scots a 6-2 lead after eight minutes. In the second quarter, Macalester again held the Lions to two goals while scoring five goals, including two from Winegar, for a commanding 11-4 advantage at the half. Seniors Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) and Lorelei Bell (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy), and first year Alice Lemmon (Evanston, Ill/Evanston Township) also scored in the second quarter.

Gaisser, Palmer-Sammons, sophomore Ayla Reynolds (San Antonio, Texas/John M. Harlan) and senior Kendall Strauss (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock) found the net in the third quarter to extend the Scots' lead to 15-6 after three quarters. Palmer-Sammons, who has been named the CWPA Player of the Week for the past two weeks, scored twice in the fourth quarter to finish with a team-leading four goals. Reynolds, sophomore Molly Lemmon (Evanston, Ill/Evanston Township) and first year Katie Martin (Bryn Athyn, Pa./Germantown Academy) also scored in the fourth, as Macalester closed out the 20-7 win.

Senior goalkeeper Jayden Kratt (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn), who was the CWPA Defensive Player of the Week the past two weeks, and sophomore goalkeeper Myles Kratz (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) split the goalkeeping duties. Kratt had six saves in the first half and Myles Kratz made two saves in the second half.

Macalester plays twice on Saturday, March 28, facing Washington & Jefferson at 11:40 a.m. and Connecticut College at 5:00 p.m. Eastern in Washington, Pa.
