PASADENA, Calif. — The Macalester women's water polo team soundly defeated the Caltech Beavers by a score of 8-3 at Braun Pool in Pasadena, Calif. today.
The Scots were carried offensively by hat-tricks from
Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) and
Anna Gaisser (Seattle, Wash./Ingraham).
Alice Lemmon (Evanston, Ill. Evanston Township) added two more to round out the scoring for the Scots.
In the first quarter, Palmer-Sammons and Gaisser made it 2-0 less than halfway through the period, but Caltech leveled it at two with six minutes left in the second quarter.
The Scots then rattled off six unanswered goals, not conceding until there were just 30 seconds left on the clock in the fourth.
Mac outshot the Beavers 32-20, and despite going 0-6 on the powerplay, dominated possession and won handily.
Macalester never allowed more than one goal in a quarter, and senior goalkeeper
Jayden Kratt (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn) playing all 32 minutes, saved six shots on nine Caltech attempts. The Scots led 5-2 at the half and never looked back.
The Scots move to 6-3 on the year. Macalester plays twice tomorrow, facing Whittier College in the matinee and Chapman University in the nightcap. Both games are in California, where Mac continues spring break play.
