HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Macalester College women's tennis team played its first dual of Spring Break and blanked SUNY Oneonta, 7-0 Wednesday night. The win gives the Scots a 4-3 record on the season, while the Dragons fall to 6-13.
Macalester won all three doubles matches, with seniors
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) winning 6-1 over Haley Peck and Taylor Plue at No. 1 doubles. First years
Darrian Streater (Redmond, Ore./Redmond Proficiency Academy) and
Isabella Tamburrino (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School) earned a 6-2 win against Dakota Jiminez and Kiersten Rufrano at No. 2 doubles, while senior
Sedona Crosby (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and sophomore
Greta Laurel (River Falls, Wis./Hudson) were victorious at No. 3 doubles, 6-1 over Ashley Glaviano and Trinity Lyons.
Haugen, Trevathan, Streater, Laurel and Crosby won their matches at first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth singles in straight sets. Taburrino dropped the first set to Rufrano before battling back to win in a tie-breaker, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).
The Scots will face Salve Regina on Thursday, March 19 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern in Hilton Head.
