MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team won its third consecutive dual with a 7-0 shutout of the University of Northwestern in a non-conference dual Saturday evening at Baseline Tennis Center. The Scots are now 3-2 on the season, while the the Eagles fall to 1-7.
Macalester won all three doubles matches, with seniors
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) earning a relatively easy 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. The other two doubles matches went to tie-breakers. First years
Darrian Streater (Redmond, Ore./Redmond Proficiency Academy) and
Isabella Tamburrino (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School) held off Aby Ross and Hannah Hyttsten, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 2 doubles, and senior
Sedona Crosby (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and sophomore
Greta Laurel (River Falls, Wis./Hudson) beating Abby Cimenski and Anne Clarke by the same score of 7-6 (7-3).
Haugen, Trevathan, Streater and Crosby won their singles matches at first, second, fourth and sixth singles, respectively. Tamburrino outlasted Ross, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (10-7) at third singles, and Laurel played a marathon match at fifth singles that lasted 2 hours, 23 minutes and beat Cimenski, 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-8).
The Scots play another non-conference dual on Saturday, Mar. 7 against Luther in Rochester, Minn. before heading to Hilton Head, S.C. for their Spring Break trip.
