MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team won every match to sweep Edgewood University, 7-0 in a non-conference dual Friday evening at Baseline Tennis Center. The Scots even their record on the season at 2-2, while the Eagles fall to 3-5.
In doubles play, senior
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and sophomore
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) won their match at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, as sophomore
Zach Dajani (Singapore/Singapore American School) and junior
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) at No. 2 doubles. First years
Derek Chen (South Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown School) and
Ezra Mahoney (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) dispatched their opponent at No. 3 doubles by the score of 6-2.
In singles, all six Scots won in straight sets, although Annes went to a tie-breaker in the first set of his 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 win over Andrew Hoffmann at fifth singles. Doi defeated Ryder Broadbridge, 6-1, 6-3 at first singles, Li was victorious over Jon Olafsson at second singles, 6-2, 6-3, and Chen beat Justin Hutchcroft, 6-1, 6-0 at third singles. Dajani was his match fourth singles over Marek Woytasik, 7-5, 6-2, and Mahoney completed the sweep by defeating Ryan Casey, 6-5, 7-5 at sixth singles.
Next up for Macalester is another non-conference dual on Saturday, Feb. 21 against Bethany Lutheran College at Baseline Tennis Center.
