Box Score 2 DUNDAS, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team opened their season with a pair of games at the Dundas Dome on Saturday, beating Wisconsin-Stout, 2-1 and falling to the University of Wisconsin Superior, 7-4.
In the first game, Wisconsin-Stout opened with a first inning run. Both teams would go quiet until the bottom of the fifth, when Macalester broke through with two runs. Junior
Tess Bojorquez (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) brought home junior
Elizabeth Welch (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) from second and junior
Alli Johnson (Waukee, Iowa/Northwest) from third for the two RBI single. Junior
Martha Miller (Medford, Wis./Medford) held the Blue Devils off, closing out the game with zero errors for the win.
Against Wisconsin-Superior, the Scots couldn't battle back from an early deficit. The Yellowjackets got two runs in the second, countered by one Scot's run off a single by Johnson that brought sophomore
Dylan Tapia (Tarzana, Calif./Notre Dame) across the plate. Wisconsin would continue to push, with three runs in the second and a sixth in the fourth to net them a five-run lead. Mac's three runs at the bottom of the fourth off a two RBI single by Tapia and a sophomore
Allison Dvorak (Poulsbo, Wash./North Kitsap) single would return them to contention, but they wouldn't bring any more runners home. The Yellowjackets would get the last score of the night off an unearned run in the seventh.
Next, Macalester is facing down the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in an away double-header. They'll head over the border on Friday, February 20 for games at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in Eau Claire, Wis.
