PORTLAND, Ore. – The Macalester College volleyball team closed out its trip to Portland with a split of two matches at the Lewis & Clark Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Pamplin Sports Center. The Scots lost to Colorado College and defeated the host Pioneers to improve to 1-6 on the season.
In the day's first match, Colorado College won all three sets, 25-15, 25-22, 25-14. Junior
MiLani Terrell (Cypress, Texas/Tomball Memorial) led Macalester with seven kills and nine digs, while junior setter
Hannah Morrow (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) recorded 11 assists and eight digs. Sophomore setter
Camilia Jones (Orlando, Fla.) also had eight digs to go with seven assists.
Against Lewis & Clark, the Scots trailed 22-21 in the first set before scoring the final four points, including kills by sophomores
Hannah Eisenman (Cary, N.C./Green Level) and
Ella Cohen-Richie (Chicago, Ill./Univ. of Chicago Laboratory Schools), to win, 25-22. Senior
Avery Rahe (Olathe, Kan./Olathe) had four kills in the set. After the Pioneers won the second set, 25-22, Macalester grabbed a 23-13 lead en route to a 25-18 victory in the third set. Junior
Sydney Stratton (North Liberty, Iowa/Liberty) notched four kills without an error in six attempts in the set. Lewis & Clark held off the Scots in the fourth set, 25-22 despite four more kills from Rahe, sending the match to a fifth set. Macalester earned its first win of the season by building a 10-5 lead and scoring the final four points to take the fifth set, 15-8.
Cohen-Richie notched three kills in the final set en route to a team-best 15 kills. Rahe ended up with 13 kills, while Terrell and Eisenman each contributed eight kills. Jones and Morrow split the setting duties, with Jones registering 20 assists and Morrow tallying 19 assists. Cohen-Richie also had five service aces and sophomore
Elizabeth Joo (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian) added three aces as the Scots combined for 13 aces. Stratton paced the defense with seven blocks. Jones finished with 13 digs, with Morrow and Terrell each recording 12 digs.
Macalester returns home to host the Macalester Invitational Sept. 12-13. The Scots will face UW-Stout on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Simpson and Caltech on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
