ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team began play at the Macalester Invitational, which includes five teams and seven matches over two days in the Leonard Center. The Scots (1-7) battled but fell to UW-Stout (4-2) in four sets, 25-22, 25-16, 20-25, 25-17.
After the Blue Devils took the first two sets, Macalester rebounded in the third set. Trailing 12-9, a service ace from sophomore setter
Camilia Jones (Orlando, Fla.) and a pair of kills by junior outside hitter
MiLani Terrell (Cypress, Texas/Tomball Memorial) sparked four straight points for a 13-12 edge. Another four-point run made the score 17-13, then kills from sophomores
Adonia Anene (North Hollywood, Calif./The Buckley School) and
Hannah Eisenman (Cary, N.C./Green Level) helped the Scots lead, 20-14. Another kill by Eisenman and two kills apiece from Anene and Terrell gave Macalester a 25-20 win.
The fourth set remained close until UW-Stout tallied four straight points to extend its lead to 17-11. After the Blue Devils took a 20-13 advantage, two Scots points, including a kill by Terrell, cut the deficit to five, 20-15. But the visitors tallied the next four points and, after the Scots held off match point twice, put the match away with a kill by Emma Barton.
Terrell matched her career high with a team-best 14 kills. Anene also had a career best with 10 kills to go with seven digs. Eisenman notched eight kills to tie her best night as a Scot, with Jones dishing out 27 assists. Eisenman and junior middle blocker
Sydney Stratton (North Liberty, Iowa/Liberty) each had three blocks, while sophomore defensive specialist
Elizabeth Joo (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian) registered a team-high 12 digs. Brooke McCune racked up 29 kills to lead the Blue Devils.
