PORTLAND, Ore. – The Macalester College volleyball team began play at the Lewis & Clark Tournament Friday evening at the Pamplin Sports Center. The Scots (0-5) faced Schreiner University in the first match in Portland and fell in three sets, 25-12, 26-25 and 25-20.
After dropping the first set, Macalester responded in the second set and built an early 13-9 lead. Seven ties followed, with the Scots eventually leading 24-23 for set point. But two consecutive kills by Schreiner and a Macalester attack error gave the Mountaineers a 26-24 win. Senior
Avery Rahe (Olathe, Kan./Olathe) had four kills in the set, with sophomore
Ella Cohen-Richie (Chicago, Ill./Univ. of Chicago Laboratory Schools) adding three kills. Rahe, junior
Sydney Stratton (North Liberty, Iowa/Liberty) and sophomore
Adonia Anene (North Hollywood, Calif./The Buckley School) had three kills apiece in the third set, only to have Schreiner close out the match with a 25-20 win.
Rahe ended up with 10 kills to lead Macalester, with Anene, Cohen-Richie and Stratton contributing five kills each. Junior
Hannah Morrow (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) registered 11 assists, eight digs and two aces, and sophomore
Camilia Jones (Orlando, Fla.) added 13 assists and five digs. Anene notched 10 digs to pace the defense.
Macalester takes on Colorado College at 1:30 p.m. and Lewis & Clark at 4:00 p.m. Pacific time on Saturday, Sept. 6 on the final day of the Lewis & Clark Tournament.
