Volleyball: Macalester Travels to Portland for Lewis & Clark Tourney

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Macalester College volleyball team began play at the Lewis & Clark Tournament Friday evening at the Pamplin Sports Center. The Scots (0-5) faced Schreiner University in the first match in Portland and fell in three sets, 25-12, 26-25 and 25-20.

After dropping the first set, Macalester responded in the second set and built an early 13-9 lead. Seven ties followed, with the Scots eventually leading 24-23 for set point. But two consecutive kills by Schreiner and a Macalester attack error gave the Mountaineers a 26-24 win. Senior Avery Rahe (Olathe, Kan./Olathe) had four kills in the set, with sophomore Ella Cohen-Richie (Chicago, Ill./Univ. of Chicago Laboratory Schools) adding three kills. Rahe, junior Sydney Stratton (North Liberty, Iowa/Liberty) and sophomore Adonia Anene (North Hollywood, Calif./The Buckley School) had three kills apiece in the third set, only to have Schreiner close out the match with a 25-20 win.

Rahe ended up with 10 kills to lead Macalester, with Anene, Cohen-Richie and Stratton contributing five kills each. Junior Hannah Morrow (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) registered 11 assists, eight digs and two aces, and sophomore Camilia Jones (Orlando, Fla.) added 13 assists and five digs. Anene notched 10 digs to pace the defense.
