ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team began MIAC competition with a loss at Hamline University, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 Thursday night at Hutton Fieldhouse. The Scots drop to 3-10 overall on the season, while the Pipers improve to 5-5.
After falling in the first set, Macalester battled in the second set, looking to tie the match. Kills by junior outside hitter

Ella Cohen-Richie (Chicago, Ill./U. of Chicago Laboratory Schools) broke a 19-19 tie and gave the Scots a 21-19 edge. After the teams exchanged points, including another Cohen-Richie kill, Hamline tallied the final five points of the set to earn a 25-22 win. Cohen-Richie tallied six kills in the set. The Pipers built a 19-9 lead in the third set and closed out the match with a 25-18 victory.
Cohen-Richie finished with a team-best nine kills, while sophomore outside hitter
Adonia Anene (North Hollywood, Calif./The Buckley School) added eight kills and 10 digs. Junior setter
Hannah Morrow (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) notched 17 assists and seven digs, with sophomore setter
Camilia Jones (Orlando, Fla.) contributing 11 assists. Defensively, sophomore libero
Elizabeth Joo (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian) registered 12 digs and sophomore right side
Hannah Eisenman (Cary, N.C./Green Level) had three solo blocks. Grace Bathurst led Hamline with 10 kills.
Macalester continues conference play with a match at St. Scholastica on Saturday, Sept. 27. The first serve goes up at 5:00 p.m. in Duluth, Minn.
