ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College seniors
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century),
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) and
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) were named to the All-MIAC team, as the conference announced its year-end awards today. Sargent and Wood earned All-MIAC honors in singles, while Sargent and Lynch made the All-MIAC team in doubles.
Sargent, who played at No. 1 singles throughout his four-year career at Macalester, earns All-MIAC honors in singles for the third time after receiving All-MIAC honorable mention last year. This season he turned in a record of 7-10 in singles play, including a 4-5 mark against MIAC opponents. Over his four years at Macalester, Sargent has a singles record of 26-35, all at No. 1 singles.
Wood returns to the All-MIAC team after earning all-conference honors in 2023. Playing at No. 2 singles this season, he went 7-10 overall and 4-5 in conference play. His win at No. 2 singles against Hamline clinched a 5-4 victory for the Scots on April 8. He also paired with senior
Owen Lindstrom (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) to win at No. 2 doubles that day. Wood ends his career with a singles record of 27-22.
Lynch and Sargent teamed up at No. 1 doubles last season with varying success that year. After a 2-8 campaign in 2024, the duo went 9-8 this season, including a 5-4 mark in the MIAC. They were victorious in their final three matches, defeating the top doubles teams at St. Scholastica, Bethel and St. Olaf to clinch a winning record. This is the third time for Sargent on the All-MIAC doubles team after making the all-conference team in 2022 and 2023. Lynch also played at No. 3 singles for the Scots the past two seasons.
Bethel's Carter Sheard was chosen the MIAC Singles Player of the Year, while Gustavus' Gage Gohl and Tyler Haddorff were named the Doubles Team of the Year. Marco Siviero of Gustavus is this year's Arthur Ashe Award winner with Madden Vanderwerf of St. Olaf receiving the MIAC Rookie of the Year award.
