| By:
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College water polo team will be the No. 2 seed at this weekend's CWPA Division III Championship, held April 11-13 at Augsutana College's Anne Greve Lund Natatorium in Rock Island, Ill. The conference's nine women's water polo teams will compete for the CWPA title as well as the two bids to the Division III Championship, which features the top two teams from the CWPA and the SCIAC. In the first round, the Scots take on seventh-seeded Grove City College on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Central.

Macalester (10-8), coached by Scott Reed, placed second in the CPWA during the regular season with a 7-1 record, losing only to top-seeded Austin College, 11-8 on Mar. 16. The Scots are led by junior Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay), who was named the CWPA Most Valuable Player after tallying 41 goals and 15 points for 56 points in 16 games this season. Junior goalkeeper Jayden Kratt (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn), who registered 113 saves in 15 matches, joined Palmer-Sammons on the All-CWPA first team. First year Anna Gaisser (Seattle, Wash./Ingraham), who had 29 goals and nine assists, made the All-CWPA second team, and senior Kendall Coney (League City, Texas/Clear Creek) received All-CWPA honorable mention after totaling 19 goals and three assists.

At last year's tournament, held at Connecticut College, the second-seeded Scots defeated Carthage in the quarterfinals before suffering a narrow defeat to Austin College, 8-7 in the semifinals. Macalester finished third in the tournament for the second year in a row by beating Washington & Jefferson, 14-10 in the third-place game.

The winner of the Macalester-Grove City game will face either Washington & Jefferson or Carthage on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The CWPA champion will be determined at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
