ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College junior guard
Eric Wentz (Minot, N.D./Minot) was selected to the All-MIAC Team for men's basketball, as the conference announced its year-end awards today.
Wentz, who is making his first appearance on the All-MIAC Team, led the Scots in scoring this season, averaging 15.8 points per game to rank seventh in the MIAC. He shot 46.1 percent from the field overall and made 43 three pointers to rank 11th in the conference in threes made per game (1.7). A two-time MIAC Offensive Player of the Week honoree, Wentz registered career highs of 40 points and 14 rebounds at Grinnell on Nov. 23. He also had a 33-point game against St. Olaf on Feb. 15 and scored 28 points against St. Scholastica on Feb. 1. In all, Wentz tallied seven games with at least 20 points and recorded three double-doubles.
Last season, Wentz averaged 10.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest to rank fourth and fifth on the team, respectively. In 76 career games at Macalester, Wentz has 845 points and 248 rebounds while making 123 three-pointers.
