| By:
GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Macalester College water polo team completed CWPA competition with wins over Wheaton, 17-5, and Washington & Jefferson, 10-7, on Saturday at the Grove City CWPA Round Robin at James E. Longnecker Pool. The Scots are 10-8 overall and 7-1 in the conference, clinching second place and the No. 2 seed in the CWPA Championships, which will be played April 11-13 at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.

Against Wheaton, Macalester scored early and often, jumping out to a 9-1 lead after one quarter and taking a 13-1 advantage at halftime. Sophomore Molly Lemmon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and first year Mak Kratz (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) each scored three times in the first half. The Lyons came as close as 13-4 in the third quarter before the Scots finished the match with four goals in the final quarter to win, 17-5. Kratz scored twice in the fourth to finish with five goals, while Lemmon ended up with four goals in the match. First year goalkeeper Myles Kratz (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) had another strong game, registering 15 saves after tallying 13 saves in Friday's 11-8 win over Connecticut College.

In the final match of the weekend, Macalester started fast again with five goals in the first 5:40 of the match. After Washington & Jefferson (9-5, 6-2 CWPA) scored back-to-back goals, senior Olivia Dimka (Denton, Texas/John H. Guyer) found the net to make the score 6-2 Scots at the end of the first quarter. The teams exchanged goals in the second quarter, with junior Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) and Dimka scoring for the Scots, to make the halftime score 8-4 Macalester. In the third quarter, junior Lorelei Bell (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) answered a Presidents' goal with one of her own as the Scots took a 9-5 edge into the final quarter. Washington & Jefferson scored twice to make it a two-goal lead with 3:40 remaining, but Palmer-Sammons tallied an insurance goal down the stretch for a 10-7 victory.

Palmer-Sammons ended up with three goals in the win, with Dimka, Bell and senior Elizabeth Matlin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) each scoring twice. Junior goalkeeper Jayden Kratt (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn) registered seven saves in goal for the Scots.

Macalester will begin the CWPA Division III Championships on Friday, April 11 and will face the No. 7 seed, which has yet to be determined, at 2:30 p.m. in Rock Island, Ill.
