PASADENA, Calif. – The Macalester College water polo team continued its spring trip to California with a 9-6 loss to Caltech Thursday night at Braun Pool. The Scots are now 6-5 on the season, while the Beavers improve to 3-12.
After Caltech took a 2-0 lead through the first quarter, Macalester pulled even with goals by first year
Anna Gaisser (Seattle, Wash./Ingraham) and senior
Olivia Dimka (Denton, Texas/John H. Guyer) to open the second quarter. After the Beavers restored their lead with back-to-back goals, Gaisser tallied her second goal of the game to pull the Scots to within one, 4-3. Caltech notched the final goal of the quarter just 14 seconds before halftime for a 5-3 edge.
Early in the third quarter, Gaisser scored again to make it a one-goal game, only to have the Beavers find the net three times in the third to extend their lead to four, 8-4 heading into the final quarter. Caltech scored again to start the fourth for a 9-4 lead. Sophomore
Hannah Fasi (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani School) and Gaisser scored back-to-back goals later in the fourth, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the match. With the win, Caltech avenges a 16-8 loss to Macalester on Feb. 15 at the Macalester Invite.
Gaisser finished with four goals to lead the Scots. Junior goalkeeper
Jayden Kratt (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn) registered four saves in goal for Macalester.
The Scots will play at Chapman University on Friday, Mar. 21, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Pacific in Orange, Calif.
