Volleyball: Macalester Competes Against No. 3 UW-Oshkosh, UW-River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Macalester College volleyball team played a tri-match against third-ranked UW-Oshkosh and UW-River Falls, hosted by UW-River Falls on Saturday. The Scots lost to both teams in three sets to drop to 3-14 on the season.

Against UW-Oshkosh, the Scots fought hard and played well against the No. 3-ranked team in Division III but ultimately lost the match, 25-19, 25-13, 25-17. Sophomore outside hitter Adonia Anene (North Hollywood, Calif./The Buckley School) led Macalester with 11 kills and nine digs. First year Danielle Oji (Katy, Texas/Obra D. Tompkins) registered four blocks, with sophomore libero Elizabeth Joo (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian) and junior setter Hannah Morrow (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) tallying eight digs apiece. Clare McEniry had nine kills to lead UW-Oshkosh (18-2).

In the day's second match, the Scots were close in each set but could not close it out down the stretch, losing 25-19, 25-17, 25-20. Anene posted eight kills, with sophomore right side Hannah Eisenman (Cary, N.C./Green Level) adding five kills. Sophomore setter Camilia Jones (Orlando, Fla.) dished out 12 assists, and Morrow recorded seven assists and 10 digs. Joo paced the defense with 13 digs. Ava Goldsberry paced UW-River Falls (10-11) with 11 kills.

Macalester resumes MIAC play with a league match at St. Catherine on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The first serve goes up at 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
