DECORAH, Iowa – The Macalester College women's cross country team won the 5K race on Saturday night with 63 points at the Luther All-American Invitational, powered by five runners in the top 23 places. Second place by just one point was Augustana (Ill.) with 64, followed by Viterbo (81), Luther (87), Luther Alumni (125), Dubuque (131), Culver-Stockton (177), and Upper Iowa (233).
Leading the way for the Scots with an overall fifth place finish was first year
Kate Fox (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt), continuing the strong start to her collegiate career with a time of 19:29.8. Sophomore
Ivy Coldren (Frederick, Md./Urbana) took 12th, finishing at 20:17.2, followed by sophomore
Destiny Osemwengie (Buford, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) and junior
Mara Pirone (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) in back-to-back 15th and 16th places, respectively. Sophomore
Samantha Ellis (Intervale, N.H./Gould Academy)finished in 25th place to complete the Scots' top five.
Macalester competes at the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 20th, at nearby Falcon Heights, Minn.
