ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester baseball team honored its team award winners for the 2024 season.
Recent graduate
Matt Odom (Glendale, Calif./St. Francis) received the Most Valuable Player and the Most Valuable Offensive Player awards. Odom, a critical member of Macalester's lineup, finished the season with a .414 batting average. In the last game of the season, he hit a solo home run, which would put the Scots above Saint John's, 3-2, but also tie the single season home run record with 11. Odom also led the team with 32 runs, 48 hits, and 35 RBIs.
The Most Valuable Defensive Player award went to rising senior
Hayes Waddell (North Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet). The center fielder had a .985 fielding percentage this spring, with 66 putouts and one assist on 68 chances.
Rising senior
Ben Levinson (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) was named the Most Valuable Pitcher. He pitched 39.1 innings and ended the season with an ERA of 5.03.
The next award went to rising junior
Raymond McCaskey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs), who was voted the Most Improved Player. McCaskey went 12-for-13 on stolen base attempts and totaled the second most runs (29) for the Scots this season.
Rising senior
Ryan Przespolewski (Spring, Texas/Oak Ridge) was honored with the Team award. This award goes to the player on the team who their teammates feel embodies the team's core values of Excellence, Accountability, and Trust both on and off the field. In 11.2 innings pitched, Przespolewski finished the season 1-1, with seven strikeouts.
