ERIE, Pa. – The Macalester College water polo team earned a pair of lopsided wins on the first day of the CWPA Round Robin 2, hosted by Penn State Behrend Saturday and Sunday. Macalester beat Grove City College, 16-4 and Wheaton (Mass.) College, 18-3 on Saturday. The Scots are now 10-4 overall and 5-1 in the CWPA.
In the first match against Grove City, Macalester led 6-1 after two quarters before tallying six goals in the third quarter and four in the fourth in a 16-4 win. Sophomore
Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) scored four goals, all in the third quarter, while junior
Olivia Dimka (Denton, Texas/John H. Guyer) notched three of her four goals in the fourth quarter. Juniors
Sian Lewandowski (North Haven, Conn./Williston Northampton), and
Elizabeth Matlin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and first year
Pooja Bucklin (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn) each had two goals in the win. Senior goalkeeper
Laurel O'Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) recorded six saves in goal.
The second match was more of the same, as Wheaton, a first year varsity program this season, could not contain the Scots' potent offense. Seven goals in the first quarter and five more in the second made the halftime score 12-1. Macalester finished with three goals in each of the final two quarters for an 18-3 victory. Matlin, sophomore
Alana Nadolski (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) and first year
Molly Lemmon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) found the net three times apiece, with senior
Gabriela Weiner (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young Magnet), junior
Kendall Coney (League City, Texas/Clear Creek), sophomore
Kendall Strauss (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock) and first year
Hannah Fasi (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani School) scoring twice. Sophomore goalkeeper
Jayden Kratt (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn) made 12 saves in the win.
Macalester closes out the regular season with two more matches in Erie. The Scots will play Penn State Behrend at 10:45 a.m. and Connecticut College at 2:30 p.m. Central time.
