ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester Athletics hosted its year-end celebration on Sunday, April 28 in Kagin Ballroom. Seniors were escorted into Kagin by bagpipes and welcomed into the Macalester M Club by club president Steve Cox '76. Macalester President Suzanne M. Rivera and Vice President for Student Affairs Kathryn Coquemont addressed the student-athletes, while Director of Athletics Donnie Brooks served as the Master of Ceremonies.

Several awards were handed out, as Macalester Athletics celebrated the 2023-24 school year.

Doug Bolstorff M Club Student-Athlete of the Year Award
This award is given to a student-athlete from a men's and a women's sport at Macalester who has contributed the most to the team's success through athletic achievement, leadership and academic excellence.

Men's Team Athlete - Caleb Williams, basketball. Williams is the third athlete to repeat as men's team M Club Athlete of the Year since 1989. A three-time All-Region and All-MIAC guard, he has helped the men's basketball team reach heights rarely seen while leading the Scots in scoring all three years. This year Williams ranked second in the MIAC in scoring. The season was highlighted by a 51-point performance in a win at Concordia that ranks as the second-most points scored in a MIAC game in the history of the conference. He also thrilled Macalester fans with a 41-point performance in an exhibition game at the University of Minnesota. A standout student as a physics and mathematics double major, Williams was named an Academic All-American for the second year in a row.

Women's Team Athlete - Jocelyn Radke, swimming & diving. Radke continued to swim her fastest times until the end of her career. In her final race as a Scot, she broke a 15-year-old school record in the 200-yard individual medley, the fourth individual school record she broke this year. At her final MIAC Championships in February, Radke earned All-MIAC honors in two individual events and four relays with top-3 finishes. Three of those relays also were school records. As she prepares to graduate from Macalester, Radke leaves with five individual school records, four relay school records and eight All-MIAC performances in her outstanding career. Also an exceptional student as an economics major, she has made both the Academic All-District and All-MIAC teams twice.

Dorothy Michel Award - Peyton Starks, basketball and Livi Novello, soccer
This award honors the outstanding junior and a senior female student-athletes of the year at Macalester and was established by family, alumni and friends in memory of Dorothy Michel, chair of the women's physical education department from 1946-1968.

Junior - Peyton Starks repeated on the All-MIAC team after leading the conference in scoring for the second year in a row, averaging nearly four points per game more than the second-leading scorer. Also an Academic All-District and All-MIAC student-athlete, she scored her 1,000th point this winter and ranks eighth all-time at Macalester with another season to play.

Senior - After battling through injuries as a junior, Livi Novello returned to the Scots' back line to start 16 games and help her team qualify for the MIAC Playoffs for the second year in a row. An All-MIAC selection as a sophomore, she received All-MIAC honorable mention this fall. Novello also excels in the classroom, earning Academic All-District honors twice and Academic All-MIAC accolades three times.

David C. Primrose Endowed Prize - Hans Haenicke, soccer
This prize recognizes the outstanding junior male student-athlete of the year at Macalester and was established by family, friends and former students in memory of David C. Primrose, director of physical education and Macalester's track and field coach from 1926-1954.

Hans Haenicke was named All-Region for the second year in a row and All-MIAC for the third straight season after leading the Scots in scoring with nine goals and 23 points. His play this season helped Macalester return to the national and regional rankings. Haenicke also was selected to the Academic All-America team for his academic and athletic excellence.

George E. Scotten Endowed Prize - Logan Pampel, football
This prize recognizes the outstanding senior male student-athlete of the year at Macalester and was established anonymously by fellow class member of George E. Scotten, class of 1921, honoring the man who directed the Macalester Admissions Office for 30 years.

An honorable mention All-MIAC running back, Logan Pampel led the Scots in rushing while setting school records for receptions and receiving yards by a running back. He also made the Academic All-District Team in the fall and is a three-time Academic All-MIAC honoree.

Rising Scot Award - Nick Kent, men's soccer and Bailey Lengfelder, women's golf
New this year, the Rising Scot Awards were created to recognize a first year or sophomore from a men's team and a women's team who has made an immediate impact on their sport while performing at a high level.

Nick Kent has been a stalwart on the Scots' back line since arriving at Mac, earning All-MIAC honors both years and making the All-Region team this fall. A starter in all 36 games, he made both the Academic All-District and All-MIAC teams this year.

Bailey Lengfelder has helped to put Macalester golf back on the map. She followed up last year's third-place finish at the MIAC Championships with a fourth-place finish this year in leading her team to fourth-place finishes both years. Lengfelder is currently ranked among the top 40 women's golfers in Division III and has a chance to be selected to compete in the NCAA Championships.

Mariah Loeffler-Kemp has overcome injuries earlier in her career at Macalester to run her fastest times this season as a senior. Loeffler-Kemp has run her personal-best times on the track this season in the mile and 3000 meters indoors and in the 1500 and 5000 outdoors.
