ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester Athletics hosted its year-end celebration on Sunday, May 3 in Kagin Ballroom. Seniors were escorted into Kagin by bagpipes and welcomed into the Macalester M Club by club president

Kathryn Coquemont addressed the student-athletes, while Director of Athletics
Donnie Brooks served as the Master of Ceremonies.
Several awards were handed out, as Macalester Athletics celebrated the 2025-26 school year.
Doug Bolstorff M Club Student-Athlete of the Year Award
This award is given to a student-athlete from a men's and a women's sport at Macalester who has contributed the most to the team's success through athletic achievement, leadership and academic excellence.
Men's Team Athlete -
Ondieki Maina, soccer. Maina had perhaps the best season in Macalester men's soccer history, registering nine goals and 10 assists for 28 points while leading the Scots to the MIAC Playoff title and two victories in the NCAA Tournament to advance to the Sweet 16. He was named to the All-MIAC and All-Region teams and made the All-America second team. When the season was in the balance, Maina took his game to a different level, racking up seven goals and nine assists during a 10-game winning streak that ended in the Sweet 16. The top highlight in a season full of highlights was Maina's game-winning goal in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against UW-Eau Claire in front of a boisterous home crowd.
Women's Team Athlete -
Jess Palmer-Sammons, water polo. A senior on the water polo team, Jess was named CWPA Conference MVP for the second consecutive year and earned First Team All-Conference honors. At the conference championship, she was selected Tournament MVP and First Team All-Tournament. A two-time All-American, Jess led the team in goals with 46, assists and field blocks, while finishing second in steals, demonstrating her impact on both ends of the pool. She also holds a 3.98 GPA, and was named an Academic All-American last spring.
Dorothy Michel Award
This award honors the outstanding junior and a senior female student-athletes of the year at Macalester and was established by family, alumni and friends in memory of Dorothy Michel, chair of the women's physical education department from 1946-1968.
Junior -
Tessa Myatt (track & field) broke the school records in both the pentathlon indoors and the heptathlon outdoors this year. Required to throw, jump sprint and run multiple events in a single competition, Myatt does every event at a high level, earning All-MIAC recognition. She also holds the school record in the shot put indoors, and appears on Macalester's top 10 all-time performance lists in the shot put, high jump, 60- and 100-meter hurdles, and weight throw.
Senior -
Bailey Lengfelder (golf) earned her fourth All-MIAC citation last fall with a second-place finish at the MIAC Championships. She also led the Scots to second place in the team standings, the highest finish in the history of the women's golf program at Macalester. Lengfelder has won two individual titles so far this year, and is ranked eighth in the region. She is a strong candidate to receive a coveted at-large invitation to the NCAA Championships this spring.
David C. Primrose Endowed Prize - Kasdan Blattman, soccer
This prize recognizes the outstanding junior male student-athlete of the year at Macalester and was established by family, friends and former students in memory of David C. Primrose, director of physical education and Macalester's track and field coach from 1926-1954.
Kasdan Blattman had an outstanding season as the catalyst for the men's soccer team's run to the Sweet 16. He registered six goals and 12 assists for 24 points to earn All-MIAC, All-Region and All-American accolades. In the words of coach Gregg Olson, "Kasdan is one of the most individually talented players in the nation. He was hands down the best midfielder in our region and one of the best in the country."
George E. Scotten Endowed Prize - Raymond McCaskey, baseball
This prize recognizes the outstanding senior male student-athlete of the year at Macalester and was established anonymously by fellow class member of George E. Scotten, class of 1921, honoring the man who directed the Macalester Admissions Office for 30 years.
The Scots' starting right fielder, McCaskey is having a Player-of-the-Year type of season. He is batting .381 with 53 hits, 12 doubles, four triples, four home runs, 31 RBIs and a league-leading 50 runs. A speed merchant on the base paths, McCaskey was named the MIAC Player of the Week on March 30 after hitting a grand slam against St. Olaf in a sweep of the Oles.
Rising Scot Award
The Rising Scot Awards were created to recognize a first year or sophomore from a men's team and a women's team who has made an immediate impact on their sport while performing at a high level. Sophomore and first year Rising Scots were honored.
Rising Scot Men's Team First Year - John McMurray (baseball) quickly adjusted to the college level in a big way. So far this season he is batting .393 with 59 hits and 42 RBIs, and is leading the Scots in all three categories. The team's starting centerfielder, McMurray has been named the MIAC Player of the Week twice this season and ranks fourth in the MIAC in batting average.
Rising Scot Men's Team Sophomore - John Ihrke (cross country/track & field) is in the middle of another standout year. In the fall he placed eighth at the MIAC Cross Country Championships to earn All-MIAC honors. In the winter Ihrke burned up the indoor track, breaking school records in the 800, the 1000 and the mile and was All-MIAC in the 1000. He qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 800 and finished ninth to receive second team All-American status. Outdoors he is among the favorites in the MIAC in the 800 and the mile.
Rising Scot Women's Team First Year - Reese Winegar (water polo) played a key role in the Scots' run to the CWPA Championship and a berth in the national tournament. She was the only first year to earn all-conference honors when she was selected to the All-CWPA second team, and was named the Rookie of the Tournament at the CWPA Championships. This season Winegar led the Scots in steals, ejections drawn and penalties drawn, and ranked third on the team in goals and assists.
Co-Rising Scot Women's Team Sophomore - Ariella Rogahn-Press (track & field) continues to impress as one of the top sprinters in Division III history. After winning the 400 in meet-record time at the MIAC indoor Championships, she broke the NCAA Indoor Championships meet record in the prelims of the 400 and finished third in the finals for her fourth All-American honor. Also All-MIAC and a national qualifier in the 200 indoors, her time of 54.22 is the second-fastest indoor 400 time ever run at the Division III level.
Co-Rising Scot Women's Team Sophomore - Safiya Butler (softball) leads the team with 55 hits, 39 runs and a batting average of .423, which ranks seventh in the MIAC. Her speed makes her almost unstoppable on the bases, as Butler has 27 stolen bases to rank second in the MIAC while being caught stealing only twice. During the Scots' Spring Break trip to Florida, she batted .570 with 19 hits and 14 runs, and was named the MIAC Player of the Week.
Academic Team of the Year
This award honors the top male and female teams that achieve the highest cumulative grade point averages.

The Rider Cup - Kate Fox, cross country/track & field; Tyler Edwards, cross country/track & field
This award is presented in memory of Janis Rider to a male and female student-athlete who excels in two or more sports, is a talented scholar and involved in community service.
Kate Fox - Fox had an outstanding cross country season, placing 10th in the MIAC at 15th at the regional meet to qualify for the NCAA Championships. At nationals, she was 107th out of 290 runners. On the track, Fox took third in the mile to earn All-MIAC honors and received honorable mention in the 1000 meters and the distance medley relay at the MIAC Indoor Championships. Outdoors she currently ranks third in the MIAC in both the 1500 and 5000.
Tyler Edwards - Edwards was a two-time All-MIAC runner and earned All-Region honors as a junior for the cross country team. He also received the MIAC Elite 22 Award for having the highest grade point average among the top 15 finishers at the MIAC Championships. On the track, Edwards finished second in the 5000 meters and was sixth in the 3000 at the MIAC Indoor Championships to earn All-MIAC and honorable mention honors. Outdoors, he has the program's second fastest time in the 5000 and is third on the Scots' all-time list for the 10,000.
Shield of Strength Awards
This award is given to a male and a female senior student-athlete who has shown commitment, leadership, and a strong work ethic in the weight room throughout their four years as a student-athlete; a person who has demonstrated the ability to be successful and help the teammates around them reach their full athletic potential.

Women's Sport Athlete - Elizabeth Trevathan, tennis
