ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team rallied this afternoon, after going down 3-0, to comeback and defeat the Bennies of Saint Benedict, 5-4, in front of the home crowd. The Scots are now 9-4 (4-2 MIAC).
After giving up all three doubles points to the Bennies, the Scots went into their singles matches, ready to fight. Saint Benedict took the point at sixth singles, but the rest of the singles points went Macalester's way. Seniors
Sydney Ellison (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park),
Amanye Reynolds (St. Paul, Minn./Harding), and
Meg Ulrich (Carlisle, PA./Carlisle) all went to three set matches. Ellison took the point at No. 1 singles 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7 tiebreaker), while Reynolds (6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7 tiebreaker)) won at No. 2 singles. At third singles, Ulrich won 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6 tiebreaker). Slated at fourth singles, sophomore
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) won 7-5, 6-4. Fellow sophomore
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) took the point at fifth singles 6-1, 6-2.
Today, the Scots honored their seniors Ellison, Reynolds, Ulrich, and
Talia Chait (Lexington, Mass./Lexington). Macalester returns five to the court next season.
Macalester's next match will be Friday April 19. The Scots host Bethel for another MIAC contest at home at Hayden Courts. The match will start at 5:00 pm.
