LAKELAND, Fla. – The Macalester College women's tennis team won its match down in Florida today, 7-2, against the Hawks of Roger Williams. Macalester is now 4-3.
Slated at No. 1 doubles, seniors
Sydney Ellison (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park) and
Meg Ulrich (Carlisle, PA./Carlisle) eased to an 8-2 victory. Sophomores
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) dominated in an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. The Hawks took the point at third doubles.
Ellison promptly beat her opponent in two 6-1 sets at first singles. Senior seniors
Amanye Reynolds (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) also took down her opponent in two sets (6-2, 6-0) at No. 2 singles. Trevathan and Haugen won at fourth singles (6-1, 6-1) and fifth singles (6-2, 6-4) respectively. Ulrich nabbed the point at third singles in three sets (6-1, 1-6, 10-5). The Hawks took the point at No. 6 singles.
Macalester's next match will be Thursday March 14. The Scots play Western Connecticut State at 8:00 am CDT in Orlando.
