ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College water polo team wrapped up its opening weekend at the Macalester Invite with a loss to Ottawa University of Arizona, 16-4 Sunday afternoon at Riley Pool. The Scots went 2-2 over the weekend.
The match was close early, with sophomore
Alana Nadolski (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) scoring a pair of goals sandwiched around an Ottawa tally for a 2-1 lead two minutes into the first quarter. The Spirit took over from there, as the visitors registered seven straight goals to take control of the game, 8-2 early in the third quarter. A goal by junior
Elizabeth Matlin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) ended the string of goals, but Ottawa notched four more goals before junior
Brooke Lane (Meriden, Conn./Hopkins School) scored for the Scots just before the end of the third quarter to make the score 12-4. The Spirit recorded four more goals while keeping Macalester scoreless through the fourth quarter to clinch the win.

Laurel O'Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) made six of her 12 saves in the fourth quarter.
The Scots return to action on Mar. 8, when they head to California for their Spring Break trip. Macalester will face Whittier on Mar. 8, Chapman on Mar. 9 and Caltech on Mar. 12.
