Men’s Swimming & Diving: Macalester Breaks Three School Records at UChicago’s Phoenix Fall Classic

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's swimming & diving team competed at the Phoenix Fall Classic, hosted by the University of Chicago Nov. 22-24. The Scots broke two school records in the relays, while sophomore Thomas Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) broke his own record in the 100-yard freestyle on Sunday.

Moore's time of 46.46 in the preliminaries of the 100-freestyle bested his own mark of 46.79, set last season. It is currently the fastest time in the MIAC this season. On Friday, Moore helped the Scots' 400-yard medley relay team of first year Kean James Pajarillaga (Saipan, Marianas Pacific/Grace Christian Academy), senior Charles Batsaikhan (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/East Chapel Hill) and first year Max Taufen (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) take 15th in 3:26.96, which breaks the old school record of 3:29.44 set last year.

Then on Saturday, the foursome of Pajarillaga, Batsaikhan, Moore and senior Isaac Kisker (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) broke the school record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:35.29. The old mark of 1:36.06 was set in 2023.

On Friday, Kisker swam the fastest time in the MIAC this season in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 21.60 just ahead of Moore in 21.70. Pajarillaga posted the MIAC's second-fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 4:49.35.

Oon Saturday, Moore made the B final in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.60 before placing 18th in 1:43.53, which leads the MIAC. Batsaikhan qualified for the A final in the 100-yard breaststroke in 56.96, the fastest time in the MIAC this season. He ended up in 10th in 57.74. Pajarillaga made the B final and took 12th in the 100-yard backstroke with a MIAC-leading time of 51.98.

On Sunday, Pajarillaga made the B final in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.56, also the fastest time in the MIAC. Batsaikhan qualified for the B final in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:06.52, which ranks first in the MIAC.

Macalester hosts the Roger Ahlman Invitational Dec. 6-7 at Riley Pool in the final competition of the semester.
