ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team is ranked fourth in the latest Region IX rankings, the United Soccer Coaches announced today. This is the second week in a row at No. 4 for the Scots, who went 1-1 against MIAC competition last week.
On Wednesday, Macalester traveled to Bethel and earned a 4-2 victory, with senior forward
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) and sophomore forward
Chris Frantz (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) each scoring twice in the win. On Saturday, the Scots ran into a tough St. Olaf team and lost 5-1. Haenicke tallied his team-leading 10th goal of the season for Macalester.
All three of the Scots' losses this season have come to the teams currently ranked in the top three in the region: No. 1 Gustavus, who is ranked sixth nationally, No. 2 UW-Eau Claire, ranked 12th nationally, and No. 3 St. Olaf. Macalester also has a win over No. 5 Luther. The other MIAC teams ranked in the region are Augsburg (seventh) and Hamline (receiving votes).
This week the Scots play at St. Scholastica on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Duluth, Minn.
