ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team hosted 25th-ranked Gustavus in a MIAC match Saturday night in the Leonard Center. The Scots were competitive in each set but fell, 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 and are now 9-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Gusties (10-9) remain unbeaten in the MIAC with a 3-0 record.
In the first set, Gustavus tallied seven of the last 11 points to pull away for a 25-18 win. Junior right side
Avery Rahe (Olathe, Kan./Olathe) had five kills without an error in eight attempts for a .625 hitting percentage in the set. Macalester was within two, 20-18 late in the second set before the Gusties reeled off the final five points for the win. Rahe notched four kills and senior outside hitter
Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) added three kills. The third set also saw the Scots trail 20-18, only to have Gustavus close out the match with five of the last seven points.
Rahe finished with 10 kills and one error for a .375 hitting percentage for the match. Preston registered seven kills, 15 digs and three service aces, while senior setter
Nicole Norton (Brussels, Wis./Southern Door) delivered 14 assists to go with seven digs. Sophomore middle blocker
Sydney Stratton (North Liberty, Iowa/Liberty) notched three blocks and senior libero
Torrance Williams (Houston, Texas/Yes Prep Northbrook) had 14 digs to pace the defense.
Macalester continues MIAC play with a match at Saint Benedict on Friday, Oct. 11. The match starts at 7:00 p.m. in St. Joseph, Minn.
