ST. PAUL, Minn. – No. 23 Macalester men's soccer took a break in MIAC action to host the Dutch from Central College. The Scots battled to victory and came out on top 2-1. Macalester improves to 5-1-2 (1-1 MIAC).
The Scots had high energy from the start. Within two minutes, the Scots had a corner and first year
Charles Wriedt (St. Paul, Minn./Central) took the first shot of the game. Junior
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./ Benet Academy) then had a shot saved and first year
Cody Da (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) took a chance. Macalester kept up the offensive pressure until they were able to open the door in the 37
th minute. Sophomore
Parker Etzbach (Wilton, Conn./Wooster School) hammered one into the back of the net, assisted by first year
Elijah Edelman (Portland, Ore./Cleveland). The Dutch found an equalizer right before halftime to make it 1-1.
Macalester came out on fire, with Da getting a shot off within the first few seconds of the whistle being blown. The Scots took the lead back in the 50
th minute, with a nice passing sequence from Da to first year to
Kasdan Blattman (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine), who crossed it in and Haenicke headed the ball down past the Dutch's goalkeeper. Macalester continued to press throughout the half, keeping the Dutch at bay. The Scots came out on top 2-1.
Macalester returns to conference play on Saturday Sept 23. The Scots head to Moorhead, Minn. to take on Concordia at 1:00 p.m.
