MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team used a pair of goals by junior forward
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) to beat Concordia College, 3-1 in a MIAC match Saturday afternoon at Jake Christiansen Athletics Complex. The win gives the Scots a 6-1-2 record on the season, including a 2-1 mark in conference play. The Cobbers fall to 4-4, 1-2 MIAC.
Macalester opened the scoring in the 16th minute, when a long ball out of the back by sophomore defender
Nick Kent (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) found senior midfielder
Branko Sciortino (Los Altos, Calif./Bellermine College Prep) on the left side. Sciortino passed the ball up to Haenicke, who beat his defender and slipped a shot from a sharp angle past goalkeeper Jensen Waltz for a 1-0 lead. Concordia responded in the 25th minute with a goal by Owen Gallo that tied the score at 1-1.
Early in the second half, Haenicke struck again. Sciortino's corner kick was headed by first year forward
Chris Frantz (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) off the right post. The rebound went right to Haenicke, who fired it into the goal for his second tally of the game. The brace gives Haenicke a team-leading six goals on the season. In the 81st minute, first year midfielder
Kasdan Blattman (San Jose, Calif./Bellermine) collected a loose ball in the middle of the field and blasted a shot into the left side of the goal from 25 yards out for a 3-1 lead.
