ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College seniors Emily Bergin (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas Episcopal School), and Regan Brodine (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and sophomores Sophie Futchko (Prince Frederick, Md./Huntingtown) and Renee Nicholson (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) were named to the Division III Academic All-District team for softball, the College Sports Communicators announced today. The four honorees are now candidates for Academic All-American honors.

Bergin had a solid season at the plate as a senior, batting .286 with 34 hits, 11 runs, six doubles and a team-leading 25 runs batted in. A three-time member of the Academic All-MIAC team, Bergin graduated from Macalester this past Saturday after majoring in chemistry. In 142 games, she had 101 hits, 15 doubles, 53 RBIs and a school-record 329 assists as the Scots' shortstop.

Brodine has been the team's starter at second base and helped the Scots turn nine double plays this season. She batted .248 with 28 hits, 14 runs, seven doubles and 18 RBIs. A two-time Academic All-MIAC honoree and an All-MIAC player in 2022, Brodine graduated as a neuroscience major. She finished her career with 93 hits, 40 runs, 15 doubles, 49 RBIs and a .307 batting average in 101 games as a Scot.

Futchko was the team's second-leading hitter with a .357 batting average to go with a team-best 40 hits and 30 runs, which ranks ninth in the MIAC. An All-MIAC selection in 2022, she is majoring in biology at Macalester.

Nicholson batted a team-best .375 this season to rank ninth in the conference. She recorded 39 hits and scored 20 runs while stealing a team-leading 11 bases. Nicholson is a chemistry major at Macalester.

Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and be a starter or contributor to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades.
