Water Polo: Macalester Takes Third at CWPA Tournament, Beats Connecticut College, 13-4

| By:
WPolo CWPA 3rd place 23ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College water polo team won the third-place game in the CWPA Division III Tournament, defeating Connecticut College, 13-4 on Sunday at Riley Pool. The Scots close out the 2023 season with an 8-11 record with the victory.

For the third straight game in the CWPA Tournament, first year Alana Nadolski (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) tallied the first goal of the game for Macalester. She added to the lead with another goal 36 seconds later for a 2-0 advantage. Connecticut College responded with two goals to tie the score at 2-2. Senior Eleanor Michaud (Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) put the Scots back on top, only to have the Camels score just before the end of the second quarter to make the halftime score 3-3.

In the third quarter, sophomore Brooke Lane (Meriden, Conn./Hopkins School) helped to give Macalester some breathing room with back-to-back goals, followed by another from Michaud for a 6-3 lead. Michaud answered a Connecticut College goal with one of her own just before the end of the quarter to make the score 7-4. The fourth quarter was all Scots, with first year Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) scoring twice and Michaud, Nadolski, senior Sydney Hollingsworth (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and first year Celia D'Agostino (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) each netting a goal to give Macalester a 13-4 victory.

Junior Laurel O'Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) registered 11 saves in goal for the Scots in the win. The third-place finish is an improvement over last season's squad that took fourth at the CWPA Tournament. Michaud was included on the All-Tournament first team, while Hollingsworth made the second team.

The win also marked the final contest in Orange and Blue for seniors Michaud, Hollingsworth and Malia Borg (Charleston, S.C./Academic Magnet).
