ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College baseball team took a short trip over to Bethel this afternoon to compete against the Royals in a MIAC doubleheader. The Royals (18-4, 10-0 MIAC) took both games from the Scots (14-12, 6-6 MIAC).
In game one, the Royals scored a run in the first, and then put up three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, to win 7-0. At the top of the first inning, junior
Matt Odom (Glendale, Calif./St. Francis) and senior
Joe Margolis (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) hit back-to-back singles, putting runners on first and third, but the Scots' next two batters flew out to the outfield. Margolis also doubled at the top of the sixth. First year
Niko Alexander (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) had two hits on the day, and a stolen base in the top of the second.
In game two, the Royals took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Scots took one back in the top of the third. Odom and sophomore
Hayes Waddell (North Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) were walked, putting runners on first and second. Senior
Kenny Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./George School) singled down the left line to score Odom. However, that was the only run for the Scots. Bethel answered with four runs in the bottom half of the innings and scored five more in the eighth to take the game 12-1.
The Scots' next doubleheader is scheduled for Monday April 24. Macalester will host Saint John's at Nicholson Field. First pitch will be at 2:30 p.m.
