TUCSON, Ariz. – Despite the rain, the Macalester baseball team competed against Concordia Wisconsin this morning in Arizona. It was a tight game, but the Scots fell 5-3 to the Falcons. Macalester is now 3-4.
After two scoreless innings, Macalester took the lead. Senior
Joe Margolis (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) blasted a triple to right center field, and brought home fellow senior
Anthony Palma (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman). Then junior
Matt Odom (Glendale, Calif./St. Francis) had an RBI to bring in Margolis. The Falcons took back a run in the fourth.
In the sixth, sophomore
Hayes Waddell (North Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) smashed a solo home run to take a 3-1 lead. However, in the bottom of the sixth and seventh Concordia Wisconsin scored four runs to lead, 5-3. Despite the Scots' best efforts, the scoreline stood for the rest of the game, and Macalester fell 5-3.
Macalester's next game will be Thursday March 16. The Scots will play Wesleyan (CT) at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. MST/3:30 p.m. CDT.
