| By:
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team will host St. Olaf in the quarterfinals of the MIAC Playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 5:00 p.m. The Scots are returning to the MIAC Playoffs after advancing to the championship game in 2022.

Macalester students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid Macalester ID card, courtesy the Macalester Athletic Department. All other fans must purchase tickets online in advance at athletics.macalester.edu/tickets. Tickets are $11.30 for adults and $3.10 for students. Cash and credit cards will not be accepted at the door.

Macalester enters the MIAC Playoffs with a 15-10 record on the season, including 11-9 in conference play to finish in fourth place. It is the most successful regular season since the 2003-04 squad finished 18-9 and advanced to the finals of the MIAC Playoffs. This is also the first time the Scots have made the MIAC Playoffs in back-to-back years since 2004 and 2005. Last season Macalester defeated St. Scholastica in the first round before upsetting third-seeded Carleton and second-seeded Augsburg on the road to reach the final at Saint John's, where the Scots fell, 75-71.

Junior guard Caleb Williams (Wild Rose, Wis./Wild Rose) leads Macalester and ranks third in the MIAC averaging 21.5 points per game. Sophomore guard Coby Gold (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver) is averaging 14.3 points per game while making 65 three-pointers on the season. Sophomore forward Badou Ba (Dakar, Senegal/Williston Northampton) leads the Scots with 8.0 rebounds per contest and ranks first in the MIAC with 58 blocks.

St. Olaf (14-11 overall, 10-10 MIAC) won its past two games to tie for fifth in the conference standings with Hamline. Connor Martin is the Oles' leading scorer at 14.6 points per game, while Charlie Haff averages a team-best 5.8 rebounds per game. Earlier this season, St. Olaf topped Macalester, 83-59 in Northfield on Jan. 4, with the Scots winning the rematch in St. Paul on Feb. 8, 84-75 in overtime. Williams made a last-second three-pointer to send the game into overtime, then scored nine points in the extra session to secure the victory. This is the first time St. Olaf and Macalester have met in the MIAC Playoffs.

The top six teams in the MIAC standings qualified for the MIAC Playoffs, with the two highest seeds, No. 1 Carleton and No. 2 Saint John's, receiving byes to the semifinal round. The quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals on Friday, Feb. 24, with the lowest remaining seed playing at Carleton and the higher seed facing the Johnnies in Collegeville. The finals will be played at the highest remaining seed on Sunday, Feb. 26. The winner of the MIAC Playoffs receives the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
