Torrance Williams (Houston, Texas/Yes Prep Northbrook) surpassed 1,000 digs in her career, as the volleyball team lost to Augsburg University, 3-1 in a MIAC match Saturday night at Si Melby Hall. The loss drops the Scots to 8-16 on the season and 2-8 in the conference. The Auggies, who won by scores of 25-19, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21, improve to 14-13, 6-4 MIAC.
Williams, who recorded her 1,000th dig in the second set tonight, is the 11th Scot to achieve the milestone in the history of the program. She accomplished the feat in 74 career matches with another season to play.
In the first set, Augsburg broke open a 15-15 tie with seven straight points on its way to a 25-19 win. Junior outside hitter
Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) tallied four kills in the set to lead Macalester. It was the Scots' turn in the second set to break open a close match, as Macalester reeled off nine consecutive points in a 13-3 run following a 12-12 tie to win, 25-15. The Scots hit .282 for the set, with Preston, first year outside hitter
MiLani Terrell (Cypress, Texas/Tomball Memorial) and first year middle blocker
Sydney Stratton (North Liberty, Iowa/Liberty) each registering three kills.
The third set was extremely close, with neither team leading by more than three points. With the score knotted at 22-22, the Auggies used a pair of kills and a Macalester attack error to take the set, 25-23 and lead two sets to one. Preston had four kills in the set. In the fourth set, the Scots stayed close but struggled to string points together down the stretch, as Augsburg scored five of the final eight points to take the set, 25-21, and the match.
Macalester hit .211 for the match and tallied more kills (54) than the Auggies (48) in defeat. Preston paced the Scots offensively with 14 kills and also was strong on defense with 15 digs. Terrell and Stratton each had 10 kills, while sophomore right side
Avery Rahe (Olathe, Kan./Olathe West) put away four of her nine kills in the final set. First year setter
Hannah Morrow (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) delivered 44 kills and added four service aces and 11 digs. Williams finished with 16 digs, giving her 1,010 for her career. Sophomore defensive specialist
Sarah Bohrer (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) contributed 13 digs on the back row. Bri Van Well led Augsburg with 18 kills.
Macalester wraps up the 2023 season on Friday, Nov. 3 with a home match against Saint Mary's University. The MIAC match begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center. The Scots will honor their seniors following the match.
