ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team competed against Grinnell in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool. Grinnell edged the Scots, 158.5-138.5 in the team scoring.
First year
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) won two individual events, taking the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.37 and finishing first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.52. Uhlhorn-Thornton also contributed to Macalester's victory in the 200-yard medley relay along with sophomores
Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) and
Olga Merkadeau (Lafayette, Calif./The College Preparatory School) and junior
Jocelyn Radke (Indianapolis, Ind.) with a time of 1:52.27. Additionally, Uhlhorn-Thornton placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.35.
First year
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.83) while taking second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.02) and third in the 100 butterfly. First year
Skye Schmit (Stillwater, Minn.) turned in the fastest time in the MIAC this season in winning the 1650-yard freestyle in 18:01.16.
Sophomore
Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West) took second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:20.09. Others with runner-up finishes include sophomore
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) in the 100-yard freestyle (56.51) and senior
Grace Madigan (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.48). Swimmers taking third include Madigan in the 200 freestyle, Wray-Raabolle in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, sophomore
Olivia Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Shorewood) in the 200 butterfly, Radke in the 50-yard freestyle, first year
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) in the 500 freestyle, and Chapon in the 200-yard individual medley.
The Scots dominated the diving events, with senior
Katie Kelbrants (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South) winning on the 1-meter board with a score of 219.25. Sophomore
Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) was second, followed by senior
Karlee Taylor (Seattle, Wash./Ingraham) in third. On the 3-meter board, it was Yehle taking first with a score of 232.35 and Kelbrants finishing second.
During the meet, Macalester honored its seniors Kelbrants, Madigan, Taylor,
Malia Borg (Charleston, S.C./Academic Magnet),
Zoe Machmer Frederick (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East) and
Grace Turner (Northborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) as a part of Senior Day.
The Scots will participate in the Minnesota Invitational at the University of Minnesota on Feb. 4 in the final meet before the MIAC Championships.
