DECORAH, Iowa – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team won the Norse Sprint Invite hosted by Luther Saturday afternoon in the first competition of 2023. The Scots scored 685 points and won four individual events.
First year
Skye Schmit (Stillwater, Minn.) placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:54.70. First year
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.38. First year
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) led three Scots in the top six of the 500-yard freestyle, winning in 5:25.36. First year
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) was second in 5:33.25, while senior
Grace Turner (Northborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) took sixth. Junior
Jocelyn Radke (Indianapolis, Ind.) won the 50-yard butterfly in 27.07, with sophomore
Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) taking fourth and sophomore
Eleanor Petrin (Excelsiot, Minn./Minnetonka) finishing sixth.
Radke also took second in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 29.09, with Wray-Raabolle taking third in 30.59. Henry was third in the 50-yard freestyle, followed by sophomore
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) in fourth. Senior
Grace Madigan (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (56.92), sophomore
Olga Merkadeau (Lafayette, Calif./The College Preparatory School) took fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.21), and sophomore
Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West) finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.33).
Three Scots finished in the top six in the 100-yard individual medley, with Chapon taking fourth, Uhlhorn-Thornton taking fifth and Madigan finishing sixth. First year
Aly Farrer (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo County) finished fifth in the 1000, while Petrin was fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke.
In the relays, Macalester's foursome of Wray-Raabolle, Uhlhorn-Thornton, Merkadeau and Radke placed second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:53.32. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, sophomore
Anna Rakowski (Vergennes, Vt./Vergennes Union), Henry, Merkadeau and Radke took second in 1:44.31, followed closely by Pollock, Wray-Raabolle, Madigan and Chapon in third with a time of 1:44.54.
The Scots also performed well in the diving events. Sophomore
Anna Rakowski (Vergennes, Vt./Vergennes Union) was third in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, while senior
Katie Kelbrants (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South) was fourth in both events.
The Scots will compete at St. Olaf on Saturday, Jan. 21.
