DECORAH, Iowa – The Macalester College men's swimming & diving team returned to the pool for the first competition of 2023 at the Norse Sprint Invite at Luther Saturday afternoon. The Scots placed fifth out of seven teams with 277 points.

Sophomore Charles Batsaikhan (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/East Chapel Hill) turned in some strong swims, taking fourth in the 100-yard individual medley (56.37), fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.43) and seventh in the 100-yard butterfly (55.84). First year TJ Palli (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) was fifth in the 100-yard individual medley (56.54) and sixth in the 50-yard breaststroke (28.38). First year Will St. John (McGaheysville, Va./East Rockingham) placed fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.97.

Others with top 10 finishes were sophomore Isaac Kisker (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood), who was sixth in the 50-yard butterfly and seventh in the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Ryan McNeff (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt), who was seventh in the 1000-yard freestyle, senior Jarrett Rose (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell), who took eighth in the 1000-yard freestyle, and sophomore Jay Fanning (Tiffin, Ohio/Columbian), who finished ninth in the 500-yard freestyle.

In diving, first year Dylan Herlihy (Reading Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) placed fifth on the 1-meter board with a score of 265.20.

Macalester's 200-yard medley relay team of Kisker, Batsaikhan, Palli and first year Kynan DeSouza-Chen (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) finished in sixth place with a time of 1:41.58.

The Scots will compete at St. Olaf on Saturday, Jan. 21.
