MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team earned a four-set victory over North Central University in a non-conference match Tuesday night at Clark Danielson Gymnasium. The Scots, who won by scores of 25-18, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, are now 6-4 on the season. The Rams drop to 4-2 with the loss.
A balanced attack helped Macalester win the first set, 25-18, as sophomores
Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and
Stephanie Geber (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) and first year
Avery Rahe (Olathe, Kan./Olathe West) each had three kills. In the second set, Macalester led 20-18 before North Central came back to win, 25-22 despite three kills from senior
Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin). Geber led the way to a 25-18 win in the third set with six kills in seven attempts, as the Scots put away 19 kills in the set.
Macalester pulled away midway through the fourth set, breaking a 15-15 tie with four straight points. The Rams never came within three points the rest of the way, as King and sophomore
Gwen Wooten (Allen, Texas/Allen) recorded three kills apiece en route to a 25-19 win.
The Scots hit a season-best .246 for the match, with 54 kills and 20 errors in 138 attempts. Geber finished with a season-high 12 kills to go with four blocks. Preston and King each had 10 kills, with King adding 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. First year
Maya Mortenson (Minneapolis, Minn./Spring Lake Park) and sophomore
Nicole Norton (Brussels, Wis./Southern Door) shared the setting duties, registering 22 and 17 assists, respectively. Both setters contributed defensively, as Norton had 11 digs and Mortenson had 10 digs.
Makayla Krohnberg led North Central with 15 kills and nine digs.
Macalester heads to Hoboken, N.J. for the Stevens Invitational Sept. 16-17. The Scots open play against William Paterson on Friday at 5:00 p.m. Central.
