Volleyball: Macalester Sweeps William Paterson at Stevens Tournament

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Macalester College volleyball team began its trip to New Jersey with a 3-0 victory over William Paterson Friday night at the Castle Point Challenge, hosted by Stevens Tech. The Scots, who won by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-16, improve to 7-4 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 4-2.

In the first set, first year Grace Watkins (San Angelo, Texas/Georgetown) recorded three of Macalester's eight kills, while sophomore Stephanie Geber (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) had three blocks to lead the Scots to a 25-17 win. The offense picked up in the second set with 12 kills, including four from sophomore Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and three apiece from Geber and sophomore Gwen Wooten (Allen, Texas/Allen), in a 25-19 victory. In the third set, the Scots hit .321 with 11 kills and just two errors in 28 attempts to complete the sweep, 25-16. Geber notched four kills and Preston had three kills in the final set.

Geber and Preston led the offense with eight kills apiece and just one error between them. First year Maya Mortenson (Minneapolis, Minn./Spring Lake Park) delivered 17 assists to go with 10 digs. Defensively, Geber finished with five blocks, while senior Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin) and sophomore Torrance Williams (Houston, Texas/Yes Prep Northbrook) had 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

Macalester plays two matches on Saturday at the Castle Point Challenge, facing Wentworth at 9:00 a.m. Central and the host Ducks at 1:00 p.m. Central.
