KENOSHA, Wis. – The Macalester College water polo team lost to Austin, 16-4 and Augustana, 13-8 in a pair of SWPA matches held Saturday afternoon at Carthage College. The Scots drop to 2-11 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
In the day's first match, Austin, ranked sixth in Division III, scored eight goals in each half to cruise to a 16-4 win. Senior
Riley Waters (Portland, Oregon/St. Mary's Academy) tallied two goals, while junior
Sydney Hollingsworth (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and first year
Sian Lewandowski (North Haven, Conn./Williston Northampton) each found the net for Macalester.
Against Augustana, a pair of goals by junior
Eleanor Michaud (Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) helped the Scots pull to within two, 6-4 after two quarters. Senior
Annika Krueger (Emerald Hills, Calif./Sequoia) scored twice in the third quarter before the Vikings closed out the quarter with two goals to lead, 9-6. Michaud opened the scoring in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to two, but Augustana outscored Macalester, 4-1 the rest of the way to clinch the win. Kendall Coney (League City, Texas/Clear Creek) also scored for the Scots.
Macalester plays two more CWPA games on Sunday, April 10, facing the host Firebirds at 9:30 a.m. before playing Wittenberg at 1:00 p.m.
