St. Paul, Minn. – The Macalester College baseball team hosted Gustavus today for a MIAC double header. The Gusties took both games 2-1 and 14-3. The Scots fall to 3-13 (0-4 MIAC) while Gustavus improves to 14-4 (3-1 MIAC).
In game one, the Scots went down one in the first inning. Macalester would tie up the game in the third. Senior
Michael Moreno (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) hit a single and brought home fellow senior
Michael Helton (Laguna Beach, Calif./Sage Hill). In the top of the sixth, junior
Joe Margolis (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) made a fantastic catch on a line drive to leave two Gusties on base and close out the inning. The game went to an eighth inning, where the Gusties would put up one more run to win game one 2-1.
Game two started with the Gusties going up 7-0 in the first two innings. In the bottom of the second, Margolis plated senior
Leonardo Bucello (Bethesda, MD./Walter Johnson). Then sophomore
Matt Odom (Glendale, Calif./St. Francis) doubled to bring home Margolis and senior
Anthony Palma (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman) to bring the score to 7-3. However, Gustavus would add seven more runs to win the game 14-3.
Margolis went 2-for-3 in game two scoring a run and registering an RBI. Macalester were limited to nine hits on the day.
The Scots' next game is scheduled for Monday April 11 at 4:00 p.m. Macalester will play the University of Northwestern (MN).
