GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Macalester College water polo team wrapped up its 2022 season with an 11-4 loss to Wittenberg University in the third-place game of the CWPA Tournament Saturday morning at Grove City College's James E. Longnecker Competition Pool. The Scots end their season with a 6-13 record, while the Tigers finish with a record of 10-18.
Wittenberg led 4-0 early in the second quarter when junior
Sydney Hollingsworth (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) tallied the first Macalester goal of the game with 6:30 left in the quarter. Junior
Eleanor Michaud (Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) followed with back-to-back goals to bring the Scots to within one, 4-3 at halftime. The Tigers regained control with the first two goals of the third quarter, then senior
Annika Krueger (Emerald Hills, Calif./Sequoia) scored for Macalester to make the score 6-4 Wittenberg. From that point on, the Scots struggled offensively and were held scoreless, as the Tigers put five more goals on the board for an 11-4 victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Laurel O'Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) registered 10 saves in goal and earned a spot on the All-Tournament second team. Michaud, who totaled four goals in the three-game tournament, made the All-Tournament first team.
The game also marked the final contest in the Orange and Blue for seniors Krueger,
Honor Kalala (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) and
