ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College water polo team concluded the regular season with a 19-4 victory over Carthage in a CWPA match at Riley Pool. The Scots are now 5-11 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
Macalester put the game out of reach in the first quarter with eight goals, including three apiece from senior
Riley Waters (Portland, Oregon/St. Mary's Academy) and junior
Eleanor Michaud (Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson), to lead 8-1 after eight minutes. Senior
Annika Krueger (Emerald Hills, Calif./Sequoia) tallied two of the Scots' four goals in the second quarter for a 12-3 advantage at halftime. Five different Scots found the net in the third quarter, including first years
Kendall Coney (League City, Texas/Clear Creek),
Elizabeth Matlin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and
Sian Lewandowski (North Haven, Conn./Williston Northampton), while Krueger and first year
Luna Johnston (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) scored in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Laurel O'Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) registered five saves, while senior
Honor Kalala (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) made two saves.
Macalester honored seniors Krueger, Waters and Kalala before the match as a part of Senior Night.
The Scots head to the CWPA Tournament next week at Grove City, Pa. as the No. 3 seed from the West. Macalester will face Grove City, the No. 2 seed from the East, on Thursday, April 20.
